In 1630 New England, panic and despair envelops a farmer (Ralph Ineson), his wife (Kate Dickie) and four of their children when youngest son Samuel suddenly vanishes. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger, and Lucas Dawson, and follows a Puritan family encountering forces of evil in the woods beyond their New England farm.

An international co-production of the United States and Canada, the film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on 22 January 2015, and was widely release by A24 on 19 February 2016. It received critical acclaim and grossed over $40 million over a $3 million budget
